Event description
MARC supports people of multicultural and migrant backgrounds regarding workplace issues and sustainable employment. It bridges the gaps.

About this Event

It is one thing to secure a job (and that's hard in itself), it is another to keep the job. Unfortunately, the situation is further compounded when some people in our community including those from multicultural and migrant backgrounds may not know the employment laws, their rights, and their responsibilities well enough. Thus, they may not have the right information, guidance, and finally, they may not be well represented.

MARC is an initiative of Multicultural Professional Bridge (MPB)and it involves working with various partners and stakeholders to provide information and associated support regarding workplace issues and sustainable employment. MPB has received funding support from Office of Multicultural Interests for the pilot and is now positioned to provide the "BRIDGE."

The Employment Law Centre of WA (Inc) is a key delivery partner for these workshops. ELC is an independent, not for profit community legal centre specialising in employment law. They provide free, confidential legal advice on employment matters to vulnerable Western Australian employees. They aim to help employees understand their rights and obligations so that they feel confident in pursuing their legal options.

This is the first of 2 workshops in Wanneroo and environs where MPB will be working alongside Employment Law Centre of WA and other key partners to provide the required education, awareness, information and culturally-appropriate support. This community information and engagement campaign is being supported with funding from City of Wanneroo.

The workshop will provide information on the following topics: types of employees, employment contracts, minimum wages and conditions, bullying, discrimination, and dismissal. It will also involve Key information and practical knowledge on cultural intelligence, and general HR tips in workplace contexts. Adequate time will be allowed for questions and answers. Participants will also be given the opportunity to explore follow-up appointments / support, where applicable.
