Description

Dear Participant

Thank you for registering for The Makers Studio Central Coast Inc. Multi Plate Colour Etching Workshop with Matt Tome being held on Saturday & Sunday 1 & 2 June 2019. Please find below all the information you need regarding workshop attendance.

Date: 1 & 2 June 2019

Time: 10:00 to 16:00hrs

Venue: Building 3 Lions Community Hall, 8 Russell Drysdale St East Gosford (entrance at the rear of the

building)

Until recently, Matthew Tome was Head Teacher, Fine Arts at Newcastle Art School, Hunter Street TAFE finishing in this role to expand his own art practice. Matt’s work is held by both public & private collectors including the Art Gallery of South Australia, State Library of Victoria and Artbank to name but a few. I would encourage you to view his work and prints on www.matthewtome.com.au .

In considering attending this workshop you should have some knowledge of printmaking, and in particular etching with metal plates.

You will begin with two aluminium plates working with simple lines and aquatint to see what can be achieved with two colours. A third plate will be introduced to explore a variety of colour effects. Multi-plate colour etching will allow you to achieve multi-colour effects by adding, swapping plates and combining a variety of colours. These methods can work with any type of imagery as you engage in playful experimentation and the application of some colour theory. This process can add another dimension to your current work. Matt will bring a range of examples, provide demonstrations and guidance to help you extend your etching practice.

What will be provided:

  • some etching tools are available on loan
  • 3 aluminium plates per participant
  • Copper sulphate etch
  • Oil based inks (we have limited colours so you may like to bring some colours of your own)
  • 1 sheet of Hahnemuhle 300gsm printmaking paper – also available for $7 a sheet at the studio should you wish to use more than the allocation
  • Tarlatan, newspaper, tissue paper
  • 2 x Presses

What you should bring:

  • If you have etching tools please bring them with you – some are available for use at the studio
  • Your own art journal & creative ideas
  • Lunch

Bringing your own art journal to record your own notes about process and achievements – it will be invaluable to you when attempting to reproduce these techniques at a later stage.

Morning & afternoon teas will be provided. Please remember to bring some lunch (we have access to a microwave and a fridge) – unfortunately, the cafes are not close, and please remember to wear closed in shoes.

This workshop will enable you to experiment and explore new ideas with an experienced facilitator who will help guide your work and exploration.

The Makers Studio looks forward to working with you on 1 & 2 June 2019.
