Event description

Description

Come and see and meet the chickens that lay local eggs for the Maranoa, Balonne, Murweh and Western Darling Down region.

Muckadilla Pasture-Fed Eggs is a new local, family owned and operated business near the township of Muckadilla, 43km west of Roma, within the Maranoa region, traditionally known for its grain, sheep and beef production. Inspired by Terry McCosker, Director of Rural Consulting Services (RCS) and farming guru, Joel Salatin, they were drawn to ethical and sustainable farming practices and thought running chooks was a great way to regenerate their 220 acre property. The pasture-fed model is about housing the hens in mobile units on the land that are regularly moved. Having mobile units means Muckadilla Pasture-Fed Eggs are able to move the hens to different locations so they are able to eat different food sources and explore pastures, exhibiting their natural behaviours. Even though caged egg production has previously been done in this region before, our pasture-fed model is new and unexplored.

Muckadilla Pasture-Fed Eggs currently have just under 1000 hens with another 1000 due end February/early March 2018, and now supply to a number of retail stores in Mitchell, Roma, Miles and Chinchilla. As people are more conscious of knowing where their food comes from and how the animals are treated, Muckadilla Pasture-Fed Eggs are transparent about their principles and practices. Come see, hear and learn for yourself.
