Description

The Montessori Method for the 6-12 year old child and a comparison with standard educational methods

Please join the Murdoch Education for a FREE seminar presented by Di Edmonds and Deb Dwyer from Rockingham Montessori School.

The second talk is this Montessori seminar series looks at the 6-12 years age group. Di Edmonds will cover the changes in the child in the second plane of development and how the classroom and the curriculum change to suit. The child at this level develops sensitive periods for imagination and abstraction through exploration. The lessons are presented in subject areas and in a way to stimulate the child’s imagination and to give them opportunity to explore areas of learning to suit their level of interest. She will also talk about the five Great Lessons and themes of the curriculum, the six main subject areas and the Fundamental Needs of Humans. Demonstration lessons will be presented in Maths (multiplication), Language (grammar) and History (the Time Line of Life).

General classroom management and student behaviour will be discussed along with comparisons between regular schools and the Montessori setting.
