VCCC MONDAY LUNCH LIVE EVENT

Lung cancer in 2018: Nihilism is out; optimism is in

Advancements in all cancer disciplines have accelerated in the last decade, providing hope and greater opportunity for patients. Historically lung cancer has had lower survival rates but in this Monday Lunch Live A/Prof Gavin Wright will showcase the significant recent and future improvements that should end the era of nihilism for this disease. Patient advocates and families, nurses, doctors (GPs, cancer specialists of all types) and allied health professionals are encouraged to attend.

A/Prof Gavin Wright, VCCC Research & Education Lead, Lung Cancer

A/Prof Wright is an academic thoracic surgeon based in Melbourne and working at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, St Vincent’s Private and Public Hospitals and Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is well known for his contributions to minimally invasive lung surgery and has a PhD in the molecular biology of lung adenocarcinoma. For the last 2 years has been the VCCC Research and Education Lead in Lung Cancer. In that role he has been instrumental in joining groups of translational and clinical researchers across the VCCC and started multi-site clinical trials in lung cancer surgery, radiation oncology and precision medicine.
