About this event

How does modern slavery manifest in supply chains? What does modern slavery due diligence look like? What should businesses be doing in preparing for reporting?

Join this Ai Group webinar to hear from our panel of experts about reporting obligations and what businesses should consider in developing modern slavery eradication strategies.

Modern slavery involves crimes "hidden in plain sight" in many supply chains across the globe and in Australia. Modern slavery refers to a range of serious forms of exploitation, including forced labour, debt bondage, human trafficking, and slavery. The United Nations (UN) and Walk Free Foundation estimate there are approximately 40 million victims of modern slavery around the world. 16 million of these victims are exploited in the private economy.

With the introduction of the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth) the Australian Government requires larger businesses to prepare and submit an annual modern slavery statement about how modern slavery risks in their business and supply chain are identified and reduced. Businesses not required to report are also likely to be asked by their customers and suppliers how they implement modern slavery due diligence.

Joining us will be :

Ro Coroneos , Senior Manager, Risk - Supply Chain , Lendlease Corporation, member of the Australian Government’s Modern Slavery Expert Advisory Group to discuss what businesses should be considering in modern slavery due diligence

Poonam Datar, CEO of the Cleaning Accountability Framework (CAF) to discuss effective anti-slavery mechanisms in preventing modern slavery and exploitation from taking hold through supply chain accountability.

Nicola Street, National Manager – Workplace Relations Policy at Ai Group and member of the Australian Government’s Modern Slavery Expert Advisory Group to discuss reporting obligations on business under the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth)
