Nighttalks: Keeping Government Accountable

Bar crawls are out and brain crawls are in at Melbourne Knowledge Week.

Traipse through Melbourne’s famed bars to discuss some of the most dangerous ideas facing technology. Join some of Melbourne’s best thinkers for a series of talks that will open your mind quicker than an overpriced cocktail.

Our Strange(r) Future

Strangers – are they the bearers of hope and possibility in our lives or solely the nefarious transporters of unwrapped candy in windowless vans? While technology has lowered the barriers to entry in the social space – allowing strangers the world over to enter the “friend zone” via the likes of Facebook - what are the implications of our increasingly monogamous relationships with technology on connecting with those around us on a daily basis? (Warning: This talk may invoke feelings of empathy, a desire to converse with someone you don’t know, as well as a belief in the infinite possibilities in talking to strangers.)

Daniel Harris

Harris was a principal of StorySocial, a creative design studio in Washington, D.C. In that role, he helped businesses, cities, foundations and brands more effectively collect and share their stories online and in person to build stronger communities. He is also co-founder of Feastly, a venture capital-backed online marketplace that allows cooks to turn their homes into restaurants and promotes community connections at the dinner table. Previously, he was the chief storytelling officer for People’s District, an online oral history project launched in Washington, D.C., that collected and shared a profile of one city resident a day.
