Description

Nighttalks

AI and the Dystopian Future

There is a lot of speculation that jobs and work are fast disappearing with rapid advances in AI and automation. We should equally consider that jobs and work are being reconfigured by new technologies, and that new technologies could be used to create a dystopian society filled with surveillance. Certainly, the world of work is changing rapidly but in complex ways with elements of continuity that need to be understood for the best outcomes across society.

Dr. Veronica Sheen

Dr. Veronica Sheen is an independent social policy researcher and commentator specialising in employment issues and the growth of inequality. Her presentation draws from the paper she gave at the conference on the future of work at the International Labour Organisation in Geneva in 2015.
