Dr Ghilan will be going through Ibn ‘Atā’illah’s as-Sakandarī’s Taj al-‘Arūs al-Hawī li-Tahthīb an-Nufūs or Refinement of Souls.

About this Event

Dr Ghilan will Insha Allah be teaching from the book Taj al-‘Arūs al-Hawī li-Tahthīb an-Nufūs, or Refinement of Souls by Ibn ‘Atā’illah. It is a concise manual consisting of spiritual instructions, aphorisms and private discourses with the Divine. The author has included numerous references to the Qur'an and Sunnah, as well as illuminating stories and similitudes, in the course of explaining religious themes such as repentance, the effects of sin, the nature of the struggle against the lower self, envy, reliance on divine planning and many others. The work concentrates on the practical steps and the essential states of being for a novice to realise, and as such, serves as a beneficial guide for both beginners and more advanced students.

About Dr Mohamed Ghilan

Dr Mohamed Ghilan is a student of international scholars and has studied Islamic sciences including Theology and Creed, Jurisprudence, Hadith, Foundational Principles (Usool), Arabic, Poetry, spiritual purification, and Qur’anic sciences.

Dr Ghilan has previously given lectures on the biography of the Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him), Fundamentalism in Islam, Islam and science, the message of Islam, Jesus in the Qur’an, in addition to others. Dr Ghilan has also taught an introductory course on Islamic Jurisprudence according to the Maliki school as well as an introductory course on Islamic Theology (‘Aqeedah).

Dr Ghilan earned a PhD in neuroscience at the University of Victoria, where he studied synaptic plasticity in Huntington’s disease, as well as the effects and molecular mechanisms of stress on the brain in Fragile X syndrome. Dr Ghilan’s research will contribute to the development of new therapies to assist individuals with movement disorders or intellectual disabilities.He is currently studying Medicine in Brisbane, Queensland.
