Friends Who Are Going
Event description

This workshop is a fun, and easy one, for kids and parents to join in together or work side by side.

Using found objects, recycled things from daily life and materials from nature, we will be creating simple, beautiful mandalas. For those who wish to go deeper, your creation may reflect may reflect deep inner values, what you care about and how you are feeling.

This is a playful workshop where we will experiement, have fun, talk about making art from materials around us, and reflect on how this kind of making can be part of your regular play with your kids.

You will make one or more found object mandalas from scratch, using careful placement of objects. You will choose colours and textures that appeal to you. You will be guided through a process to relax into the process, trust your intuition and choose items that are personally significant to you.

You will also leave with ideas of how to create simple mandalas out of objects in your home and garden as part of your ongoing artistic expression/ self care/ connection with nature, and how to make these with your children.

Patterned and plain fabrics, beads, buttons, yarns, string, ribbons, natural objects such as leaves, pebbles, seashells, sticks. All these will be provided.

Nothing at all, all will be provided.

However if you spot lovely natural items in your garden that you wish to bring (eg leaves or gum nuts) or have some special things at home you love and want to use (like a button collection that is gathering dust or some precious beads) feel free to bring them along for your own use or to share.

Nope. As long as you are willing to jump in and give some things a try this class will be fine for you. Working in a group is a great way to get over fear of making a mistake. You may find your ideas flow and inspiration is fired up simply through seeing the ways that your fellow makers engage with the materials.

This workshop will suit people who like to see the beauty in nature, who have an interest in sculpture but don't know where to start, or people who maybe like making home made cards or gifts, doodle, paint, draw, or like knitting or sewing but would like to try stretching their use of materials or techniques. It also suits absolute beginners who would love to try some art making.

Several found object mandalas will be shared by the facilitator as examples.

Warm up activities will be used to get us moving and making in a playful way.

YES. This particular workshop is designed for adults, AND ALSO children who are attending with an accompanying adult. Children must be over 8 years old, and able to listen, join in group activities, and follow some basic safety instructions. Adults bringing children will need to stay attentive to their needs, engage with them through the workshop, and if the child is unable to 'last' the full 3 hours, the accompanying adult will need to take the initiative to take the child outside for a walk or similar.

Saturday 8th July 2017

Runs 1:00pm - 4.00pm. Please arrive at 12.45 so there is time for registration, taking shoes off, name tags etc. This workshop is designed to be dynamic, but there is definitely room for people to work at their own pace.

Once a month in 2017, I will be highlighting a different method, material or project for those keen to learn some of the technical aspects of art making but in a totally experimental, fun and playful way. See http://jadeherriman.com/workshops/ for more info.

Class costs $75.00 plus booking fee for an adult. All materials provided. Coffee/ tea and afternoon tea is included. Please email to notify of any dietary requirements or allergies - info@jadeherriman.com

Please note that unfortunately this venue does not have wheelchair access. If you have access or mobility issues but would like to participate in a workshop lik ethis please let me know as I can in some circumstances arrange workshops for private groups in a venue that suits.

Please text the faciltator if you are running late (mobile number provided on registration).

This event requires 6 participants to go ahead. The workshop will be confirmed one week prior to the workshop date. Should numbers be insufficient, the workshop will be cancelled at this time and a full refund given to all participants.

Life & Balance Centre Glebe is located upstairs at level 1 of the old Australia Post Building. The official street address for that building is 181a Glebe Point, Glebe Road BUT... it is a BIG building with a few front doors. Just to be tricky, the entrance for our venue is actually just around the corner on St Johns Rd. So if you find the intersection of Glebe Point Road and St Johns Road you are very close!

  • If you are a visual navigator, look for the bright red and yellow Australia Post mail boxes on St Johns Road which are almost right out the front of our venue, and then look for the Life & Balance signs dotted either side of the door with details about yoga classes.

  • If you are using a map on a mobile device to navigate, the cafe across the road from the actual entance (St Johns Esspresso) is at 73 St Johns Rd so you might like to enter that street address into your map.

Jade is a transpersonal art therapist and coach who loves mixed media art making and does it for fun, alongside her work with clients. Her approach to art making is playful and experimental and she has cycled through a wide range of different materials, styles and techniques in her work over many years. She is a firm believer in art for self expression and wellbeing, and offers these short mini masterclasses within a framework of art therapy - to help participants become more aware of critical inner voices, to encourage particiupants to align their work with feelings and life experiences, and to create a respectful group dynamic for sharing and learning, all while having fun and learning about a new art technique or material. Read more about Jade or get in touch HERE .
