About James Tuma, Urbis
James is a visionary urban designer with a broad skills palette. He is qualified in urban design, and landscape architecture – disciplines he draws on while positioning projects, master planning and driving design outcomes, as well as advising on public realm strategies and public space implementation. Since joining Urbis in 2005, he has worked on significant national and international integrated developments and master planning projects in Australia, Asia and Europe including new town centres, waterfronts, infrastructure and public spaces. James is an advocate for sustainable cities and focuses on imaginative solutions for sites that kindle community passions. He has made outstanding contributions in leading the Brisbane City Centre Master Plan 2017, is overall lead designer for the internationally significant Queen’s Wharf redevelopment and is currently advising on the redevelopment and governance of Orchard Road in Singapore.
About Kate Meyrick, Urbis
Kate is a passionate urbanist and place maker with more than 25 years of international experience working throughout Australia, as well as Asia, Europe and the United States. She is globally respected for her expertise in visioning and positioning city scale precincts, working sensitively with stakeholders and the community to co-create powerful new futures for wellloved places. She has been influential in shaping thinking about the global competitiveness of Australian Cities, their future identity and quality of life. A regular speaker, panellist and conference moderator; Kate is recognised as a thought leader in relation to city-shaping, knowledge and innovation precincts and talent attraction. Kate thrives on collaboration and works effectively in partnership with government, community, non-profit and private sector stakeholders. She has strong experience in conceptualising and delivering complex urban projects: working with a diverse mix of stakeholders to curate a bold and innovative vision for future urban life that will deliver enduring shared value outcomes.
About Paul Spiro, Chairman, Gadens
Paul is the Queensland Chairman of Gadens and is considered one of Australia’s leading experts in property law, commercial negotiation and facilitation. Paul is the former Chair of Brisbane Festival, former Chair of Brisbane Institute, a Councillor of the Queensland Futures Council, and a member of the Queensland Art Gallery Foundation. He was also the Attorney General’s representative at the Queensland Law Society Council between 2014 and 2015.
Paul’s practice has focused on transport infrastructure, innovation land use, and project development. He also advises on all aspects of building and construction for large-scale mixed-use developments and large commercial transactions. Paul has extensive experience in finding solutions for the integration and connectivity of residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
He is highly experienced in preparing innovative structures for joint ventures both with public bodies and in the private sector, including the provision of urban renewal projects. He also has considerable expertise in all areas of rail transport infrastructure, including transit-oriented developments. Additionally, Paul advises offshore, national and local developers of residential and mixed-use precincts, retail shopping centres, and luxury resorts, and leads negotiations between stakeholders and key players on multi-party transactions.
Paul has experience in dispute resolution processes and procedures and is often called upon by clients (especially senior business leaders) to negotiate commercial outcomes rather than turning to full-scale litigation. Paul always adopts a collaborative team-based approach with projects, often drawing together other specialists within the firm as a project leader to obtain the best outcomes for clients.
Paul has been voted by peers as “Best Lawyer” in the categories of Project Finance and Development Practice and Real Property Law. Doyle’s Guide recognises Paul as a “Recommended” lawyer in their list of “Leading Property & Real Estate Lawyers – Queensland”.
About Llew Jury, Managing Director, Sprint Ventures
Llew is one of Queensland’s leading serial startup entrepreneurs and is the Managing Partner of venture capital firm Sprint Ventures. Llew is also the Founder & Chair of Reload, one of Australia’s leading digital marketing agencies servicing over 300 global clients. Reload is an award-winning agency offering digital strategy, search, performance marketing, media buying, and consulting with 75 staff throughout offices in Brisbane, London, and Manila.
Llew is also the Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EiR) for the RCL Accelerator and Activate programs and is the EiR for the Bentleys Carefactor Aged Care Tech Accelerator. Llew is a scaleup growth advisor through his business acceleration agency Advancer,
Llew holds a BA from the ANU and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) and is a Fellow of the Institute of Managers and Leaders (FIML). Llew also sits on a number of boards.
About Paul Fairweather
Paul is a Creative Thought Leader, a thinking and a DOER. Paul has had a career as a successful Architect, Artist, Designer, Inventor, Property Developer, and CEO of an award-winning Architectural company. Once described by a colleague as equal parts zen and espresso. Paul understands that to make ideas happen it is a combination of both the creative and practical.
Along the way of his unusual career, his curiosity has found him as co-founder of TEDxBrisbane, giving a three-minute talk on the main stage of TED< being a finalist in the Archibold Prize, writing a column in a monthly mag, singing, acting, and occasionally doing some standup comedy.
Paul distills his knowledge and expertise of the creative process to inspire people and businesses on how to take their ideas and vision to reality. He is about creating a brighter future for the benefit of all.
