Event description

Description

West Australian artist David Spencer showcases a bold collection of powerful new work in his 14th solo exhibition. The new paintings are bound to excite, and see Spencer abandoning his tradition approach of continued layering and detailing in order to explore new compositions, reflections and natural forms.

"I hadn't intended on these new paintings making bold statements. But collectively the resulting work is charged with energy, strength and drama. I'm completely engaged in this vision and feel I've developed a stronger voice in abstraction for doing so."

Painting straight from the heart, Spencer puts mood and memory to canvas for an emotive outcome. The sentiment expressed is ultimately left open to interpretation, with viewers encouraged to engage with pieces based on their own experiences.

Spencer has collaborated with glass artist Margaret Heenan, with the duo combining their artistic energies for a dynamic marriage of mediums. Heenan’s kiln-formed glass sculptures create a unique synergy with Spencer’s colour-saturated paintings, which simply must be experienced.

The culmination of an exciting fusion of techniques, expertise and expression inspired from abstraction and landscape offers viewers a pair of artistic visions designed to delight the senses.
