8 Week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction for Teens

(MBSR-T)

An evidence based program, teaching teens aged 13 -18 simple yet effective skills to relieve the pressures of teenage life - improving focus and resilience; and reducing: anxiety, emotional reactivity, feelings of overwhelm, volatility, depressive relapse and the impact of living with chronic ill health or chronic pain.

Who Can Participate?

Teenagers aged 13-18 who are having difficulty managing stress in any aspect of their lives including stress related to school, home, relationships, medical conditions and mental health conditions (such as depression or anxiety).

What to Expect

MBSR-T takes a full mind body approach, focusing on the whole person, in a supportive group setting, with a highly-experienced teacher. Participants will engage in activities to:

  • Explore stress and the role stress has in life
  • Allow for foundational mindfulness development
  • Focus on building social skills, communication, and relationship development
  • Improve emotion regulation and experience situations with less emotional reactivity
  • Learn effective strategies for making better choices
  • Increase kindness and compassion for self and others

This will be facilitated through exploration of:

  • Mindful movement exercises
  • Mindful meditation practices to encourage relaxation and awareness
  • Self-reflection through journaling, worksheets, group activities and discussion

2018 Course Dates

TERM 1- Begins 9 February 2018

  • 8 weekly classes of 1.5 hours each
  • Fridays from 4.30pm to 6pm

TERM 3- Begins 20 July 2018

  • 8 weekly classes of 1.5 hours each
  • Fridays from 4.30pm to 6pm

Cost

  • $295 Early Bird Registrations apply to registrations received by 9 January 2018
  • $345 Registrations after 9 January 2018

Refunds

  • A full refund of the registration fee is available up until 2 weeks before the course commences
  • For cancellations within 14 days of course commencement an $80 administration fee will be withheld and the remaining course fee refunded.

There is a minimum number of 8 participants required to successfully run this program. If minimum numbers are not met by 7 days prior to course commencement, you will be notified and a full refund given.

Your Teens Safety

The course facilitator, Karen Haddon, holds a National Police Clearance Check, Working with Children Check, Senior First Aid and Mental Health First Aid Certificate.

About Karen Haddon

Mindful EAS are a social enterprise established by Karen Haddon who is passionate about bringing evidence based, fully researched, mindfulness programs to anyone who may benefit. Karen has lived the benefits of mindfulness for 20 years and is formally qualified to deliver the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program-developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn Phd, MBCT - developed at the Oxford Centre for Mindfulness in the UK, MBSR-Teens - developed by Gina Biegel (USA), MiSP.B and Mindful Schools programs - 2 internationally recognised Mindfulness in Schools curriculum's. Karen is devoted to continuing professional development and is currently studying Elisha Goldstein's 6 month ACIML and a 12-month yoga teacher training. She facilitates mindfulness workshops in the education and business sectors on behalf of Smiling Mind and is an Openground Mindfulness Teacher. Karen is a Senior Member of the Meditation Association of Australia and holds a current National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check.
