As Mindfulness becomes more common in our workplaces, this session is your opportunity to consider the pros and cons of incorporating it into our OD practice.

 

For our April event, we will be joined by psychologist, mindfulness researcher and practitioner Sarah (Sally) Francis.

 

Sarah will present some background on the contemporary context of what might be called the “mindfulness movement”. She will briefly review its development within the healthcare system as a means of maintaining well-being and relapse prevention and how this intervention with its roots in Eastern spiritual traditions has been adopted in a range of sectors including education, the criminal justice system, governments and corporates.

 

The session will include some experiential experiences of different mindfulness exercises.

  • Registered psychologist

  • Trained and experienced in mindfulness theory and practice.

  • Sarah has worked as a teacher, human resources manager, general manager of learning and development, business consultant and is the author of Workplace Communication: A Teacher’s Guide (Pitman, 1993) and coauthor of The Clinical Handbook of Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (Wiley, 2018).

 

Sarah has trained in a variety of mindfulness-based approaches and prefers to work mainly with Mindfulness integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiCBT).

 

In her clinical work in private practice in Melbourne’s CBD Sarah regularly conducts MiCBT programs as part of individual therapy for people struggling with depression, anxiety and stress and other mental health conditions. She delivers the training in MiCBT for professionals as part of the MiCBT Institute and conducts mindfulness training for health professionals, post-graduate students and corporate groups.

 

Sarah has presented mindfulness workshops in a variety of corporate and organizational settings supporting organisations well-being strategies including Cleminger, Ogilvy, Red Cross, Odecee, Department of Corrections, University of Melbourne, Victorian Government.

 

She has conducted research into the measurement of mindfulness and is currently undertaking some research into the effectiveness of MiCBT as part of a PhD at Monash University.
