By Lane Cove Library

Overview

Tuesday 10 February, 6:15pm. Battle of Morotai

In May 1944 Allied troops captured Madang in Papua New Guinea allowing the United States to begin Operation Tradewind and the Battle of Morotai – part of the process to recapture the Philippines and to occupy the Japanese home islands. Tradewind also served as the staging point for the Australian landings on Borneo in early 1945.

LTCOL Graeme Davis (Retd) from the Lane Cove R.S.L. Sub-Branch, and principal of Family Military History will discuss Operation Tradewind and the Battle of Morotai in the light of the strategy of ‘island hopping’.
