A professional development conference for the early years sector

The 9th Annual Mildura Early Years Conference aims at providing information to professionals, parents and the community about educating and caring for children aged 0-8 years.

Keynote Speaker #1

Vulnerable Families: the transformational potential of early childhood services - Presented by Emeritus Professor Dorothy Scott AM

Identifying the key features of early childhood services working successfully with vulnerable families and their children. Drawing on several exemplars of Australian programs, the presentation explores relationship-based and family inclusive practice, cultural competence and inter-agency collaboration in the early childhood sector.

Keynote Speaker #2

Engaging Parents around their child's happiness -Presented by Tim O'Leary

When parents are asked what they want for their children the most common answer is ‘I just want them to be happy’. The problem is that raising happy kids means a lot more than always making your kids happy!

The last decade has seen a surge of research into ‘happiness’, but at the same time there has been a rise of depression and anxiety in children and adults. How can this be, when our current living standards are so high?

Tim O’Leary is a therapist, educator and author based in Melbourne who regularly appears on TV and at conferences, offering parenting tips and advice.

Tim will focus on the Five ‘Happiness Factors that children really need in order to learn and be happy. Tim will share videos, stories and show how to use brain-based approaches to reach parents more effectively, so that parents can understand why their parenting matters to their child’s developing brain and overall happiness.
