Event description

Description

Middle Grade Fiction

This three-hour workshop takes a look at early middle grade fiction (EMG): what it is, who it’s aimed at, and how to write it. This informal, interactive session will focus on three important aspects of writing for this age-group: hooking the reader with an engaging opening, developing character and voice and maintaining tension. We’ll also focus on common pitfalls and how to avoid them. The session will conclude with a look at editing and how to polish your manuscript so it’s as good as it can possibly be, and finally, we’ll look at how to approach agents or publishers.

Format

A workshop for intermediate and emerging writers. More information on program formats and level definitions can be found here

Learning Outcomes

Participants will have learned about and practised the skills needed to produce engaging junior fiction. They will also have learned how to edit their own work, and how to go about approaching agents/publishers.
