Description

**Please note date change due to Origin decider!! Now Thursday 13 July!**

Michael Jeh will be running a parent information session for all parents on Thursday 13 July at 7 pm in the Oakleigh State School Library following his leadership work with our Year 5 students and year 6 students the previous day. We had over 50 parents come last year with very positive feedback regarding the information from his presentation.

Michael is an experienced speaker/educator who specialises in working with adolescents (and parents) in the area of risk-taking behaviours which encompass drugs, alcohol, social media and the many issues that confront parents as they attempt to navigate through the teenage years. He is regularly heard on ABC and 4BC radio and his clients include the ARU, Cricket Australia and many other national sporting bodies and schools/universities around Australia. This information session is open to all parents in our community. The issues that will be discussed relate to all teenagers, soon to be teenagers, boys and girls, parents and carers. Michael has been working with schools for a number of years and the feedback from students has always been that his pragmatic and entertaining presentations cut through political correctness in a refreshing and honest way that makes sense of the complex world of adolescence. His vast experience in running parent information sessions gives him a unique perspective on the challenges facing parents. It is about understanding what is "normal" and being able to spot warning signs before they become a significant problem.

We are deliberately opening up this invitation to all parents as the issues discussed will impact on your child as they interact with their friends, their parents and the outside world. Already in 2016 we have been confronted with students having to deal with Social media misuse, cyber bullying and friendship issues. Most of this has occurred away from the school environment and is therefore very much the responsibility of parents. Monitoring and discussing your child’s online behaviour is imperative. Michael will help you understand the inherent dangers and he will educate you as to what really is going on with simple tools such as smartphones and mobile connectivity. Come along and be informed, be engaged and be proactive. You can find out more about Michael's credentials at www.michaeljeh.com.
