Event description

Description

Michael Galinsky is a photographer, musician, and filmmaker. During his 'Producing Low Budget Documentaries' workshop, he will give a survey of his work and will discuss how the different forms build upon each other, allowing his work to grow and expand.

Further Michael will go into his evolving relationship to documentation, cultural frames, perception, work, and health.

Joined by his wife Suki Hawley (filmmaker and editor) he will discuss strategies that he and Suki have developed that help them take advantage of the resources they have access to. He will ramble a little, but so does his work. Suki will try to get him back on track

Michael and Suki met in 1993 and they made "Half-Cocked," a music feature film that toyed with the line between documentary and fiction. In 1999, they made a similar follow-up film in Spain, "Radiation".

They went on to make multiple feature documentaries including "Horns and Halos," "Code 33," "Battle for Brooklyn," "Who Took Johnny," "All The Rage," and "Working In Protest."

Most of these films have played at Revelation Film Festival. Their films "Horns and Halos" and "Battle for Brooklyn" made the Oscar shortlist, and in 2012 they were awarded a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship to support future work.

Join Michael and Suki for this free Revelation workshop.
