The 80s were a decade of discovery for Metal fans all over the world. The emergence of heavy music sub-genres & styles throughout this period ensured there was something for everyone ...regardless of whether you were into glam, prog or thrash. Head bangers in Melbourne were exposed to these emerging international styles thanks almost exclusively to Metal for Melbourne, formerly Central Station Records. Metal for Melbourne played a pivotal role in promoting heavy music in this city and it was Metal for Melbourne who championed and promoted the live scene in an era where it was almost non existent. Culminating in 1986, the event was the last of it's kind. Whilst it certainly set the tone for a new breed of gigs, the original Metal for Melbourne live event has been missed by generations of heavy music fans since. 31 short years later, Metal For Melbourne is back with a once-off showcase gig to celebrate the shop, the scene, the bands and the people.
