Event description

Description

Murdoch University's School of Health Professions invites you to participate in our upcoming Mental Health Skills Workshop in July 2018.

This Mental Health Skills Workshop will benefit student nurses, practice nurses, emergency department nurses and carers who may come into contact with people suffering from mental illness and those who would like to refresh or update their knowledge and skills.

This ability to recognise signs of mental illness and how to care for patients whilst having an understanding of the resources available, can lead to increased confidence when dealing with people with a mental illness, which can ultimately benefit your practice.

Professionals from non-government agencies, industry and those with lived experience of mental illness will share their expertise and stories. Interactive workshops will provide you with the opportunity to practice your skills.

What will I learn?

  • How to navigate the Mental Health system
  • Learn how to undertake a Mental State Examination
  • Learn how to undertake a Risk Assessment
  • Understand mental illness from the Clinician's perspective
  • Understand mental illness from the patient's perspective

Who is this workshop suitable for?

New nursing graduates, practice nurses, emergency department nurses, student nurses and carers.
