Event description

Description

This course is for people who have a lived experience of recovery from trauma, grief or loss, or mental distress, experienced either directly or as part of their role as a carer or worker. Industries that use peer support include healthcare, community mental health, emergency services, military and police. Sharing a lived experience does not mean we’ve experienced the same life events: it means we’ve experienced the effects of mental distress, acknowledged that we’re on a journey of recovery and are building resilience in our own lives. Peer support is about using our experience as a basis to build safe spaces, create empathic relationships and support others as equals.

This professional development course is designed to create a safe space for people to share their lived experience and recovery, and to explore and develop professionally within this unique learning space. The course is facilitated by qualified peer practitioners with a lived experience who are currently working in the field.

Please note: While every effort is made to provide a safe and supportive environment, people will be sharing their stories of ill-health and recovery. Stories may contain distressing elements for some people. Please ensure you are feeling robust enough to undertake the course at the time of commencement, while keeping in mind the cancellation timeline. If you have any concerns about this aspect of the course please contact us to discuss.
