This two day (12hr) Mental Health First Aid course will teach you how to provide initial support to other adults who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan. This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.

• Non-suicidal self-injury
• Panic attacks
• Traumatic events
• Severe psychotic states
• Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use
• Aggressive behaviours.

Please Note: This course is not a therapy or a support group and neither does it set out to teach anyone how to diagnose an illness, it is a first aid and Mental Health literacy course. Any advice provided within the training should not be relied upon as a substitute for professional mental health advice.

Why attend an MHFA course? Evaluations consistently show that MHFA training is associated with improved knowledge of mental illnesses, their treatments and appropriate first aid strategies, and confidence in providing first aid to individuals with mental illness. Who can attend this course? Any adult can attend.

Become an Accredited Mental Health First Aider: Demonstrate your mental health first aid skills by becoming an Accredited Mental Health First Aider. Complete an online assessment after the course to become accredited (completing the exam is optional, you will still receive a certificate of attendance as long as you attend the full two days - you cannot miss more than 1 hour of the course in total and if you miss the second day, you must complete it within three months to ensure you meet the accreditation rerquirement - please contact us to discuss if you have any special needs or requirements we should be aware of - such as literacy, mobility, hearing or sight impairment).

Cost: Full fee is $300 per person or concession rate of $180 per person for Health Care Card holders (please bring your card with you).

Ticket Sales: Ticket sales will close 2 working days prior to the course date. If your preferred course is full, you will be placed on a waitlist and if someone drops out you will be notified.

Refunds, Transfers and Cancellations: No-one likes cancelling an event but sometimes life has other plans! If we need to cancel, postpone or reschedule your course due to low enrolments or unforeseen circumstances we will refund the cost of your ticket in full within 30 business days. Unfortunately, we cannot reimburse you for the cost of accommodation, flights or any other costs associated with attending the course, so please consider this if you are travelling from interstate.

In the event that life throws you a curly and you need to cancel, you have up to 7 business days prior to the start date of the course to receive a full refund, or, we can transfer you to another scheduled course date (of the same course) so please let us know as soon as you can if you can’t make it. If you wish to cancel less than 7 business days prior to the start date of the session due to illness or bereavement, please contact us to discuss. Cancellation requests less than 7 working days prior to the start date of the course will be approved or declined at the discretion of Grace of Eights Mental Health First Aid Training.
