Event description

Description

One in five adults is affected by a mental health issue each year. Does your workplace have a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) officer?

The workplace is where the early signs and symptoms of a developing mental health problem can first be noticed.

The MHFA program has been specifically designed for workplaces. This training leads to improved knowledge of mental illness, confidence and skills to help someone developing a mental health issue or in a mental health crisis, and reduces unhelpful stigmatising attitudes that can prevent people seeking help early. The skills learned in MHFA training are beneficial inside and outside the workplace.

Course Format

eLearning
This eLearning course is self-paced (approx. 6-8 hours) with individuals able to work through it in their own time.

Developing mental health problems covered:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety problems
  • Psychosis
  • Substance use problems

Mental health crises covered:

  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
  • Non-suicidal self-injury
  • Panic attacks
  • Traumatic events
  • Severe psychotic states
  • Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use
  • Aggressive behaviours.

Participants can register, enrol and pay for this component via this link: https://mhfa.com.au/courses/elearning. MHFA will provide participants with a Standard MHFA Manual.

It is prerequisite of this course that all participants complete the online eLearning prior to attending face to face training.

Face to Face
The face to face component runs for 3.5hrs. The focus of this training is on the revision and application of knowledge and skills learnt in the eLearning component, providing participants with the opportunity to:

  • Examine issues pertinent to mental health problems in the workplace in more depth
  • Clarify any points of uncertainty remaining after completion of the eLearning modules
  • Apply the MHFA Action Plan to relevant workplace scenarios
  • Discuss and reflect 'a where to from now' in using mental health first aid skills in the workplace.

Out Doors Inc. is offering the 3.5hr face to face component on Tuesday 6th December. You can view the course flyer here: http://bit.ly/2dMpyhv and register via this page.

Upon Completion

Course participants receive a Certificate of Completion. Additionally (at no extra cost), participants have the opportunity to complete an online accreditation exam in order to become an Accredited MHFAider for 3 years.
