Event description

Description

Thoughts of suicide are common, but they are not always acted upon. There are mental health first aid actions that any member of the public can take to reduce the risk of a person acting on thoughts of suicide. This new 4 hour face to face workshop is based on the Mental Health First Aid expert consensus guidelines ‘Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviours: First Aid Guidelines’ and compliments the 12 Hour Youth and Standard MHFA course.

Learning outcomes of the course include:

  • Understanding accurate information about suicide rates and risk factors in the Australian context
  • Reviewing the first aid guidelines of how to intervene when someone is experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours
  • Practicing these skills in a safe environment.

Who can attend?

Any interested adult can attend. This course is not a therapy or support group or a postvention course, rather it is an education course and it is important that people undertaking the course are feeling relatively robust when they undertake it. It is not recommended for individuals recently bereaved by suicide. Bereavement support Services can be found at the Beyond Blue Website https://www.beyondblue.org.au/
