Men, Migration, Gender and Violence Against Women
Event Information
About this Event
Wellsprings for Women conducted a community research in 2019 focusing on the experiences of migrant and refugee men and how migration impacted on their role as men. What have been the positive and negative changes and how have they adapted? what helped their adjustment to new understanding on gender? In this conference you will hear from Jasbir Suropada and Deng Kuor sharing their experiences and insights.
What are the implications for service providers and what culturally appropriate, inclusive and relevant programs should be in place that help our endeavours for gender equality without alienating men in the process?
Then Hala Abdelnour will share the findings of her project on a pilot study commissioned by VMC to collate data and information about services across Victoria that are supporting culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) perpetrators of family violence to reduce their harmful behaviours. The focus was on multicultural agencies, specialist family violence service providers and community leaders. The project attracted broad interest and responses, which will be explored and discussed in this presentation. The discussion will include current strengths and weaknesses in the sector, the project's capacity for advocacy, and safety outcomes for families who are experiencing violence. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions and reflect on some of your practice
