Event description

Description

“So many of the masculine traits are incredibly healthy but it’s about having the ability to choose when you use them and when you don’t” – Tom Harkin, Man Up TV series.

Join four national experts to unpack what it means to be a man in modern Australia. Together we will deconstruct the gendered constraints and most pressing issues for men and boys, and explore the actions we can take to address them.

Why Men and Masculinity?

This forum complements Men's Health week activities by hosting Australian experts in North East Victoria to continue the conversation about men's health and masculinity. The gendered landscape is rapidly evolving to a point where many say 'political correctness has gone too far'. However, men in rural Australia are still experiencing greater rates of chronic illness, accidents, violence and suicide.

You will leave this forum better informed about the factors that contribute to men's poor health, the key issues facing men and boys in contemporary Australia and how to best apply this knowledge to your workplaces, community groups, family and personal life.

Meet the experts

Jason Ball - 2017 Young Australian of the Year

Dr. Michael Salter - Senior Lecturer at University of Western Sydeny (UWS)

Steve O'Malley - Metropolitan Fire Brigade

Tom Bell - Principal Facilitator at Tomorrow Man
