Event description

Description

Melody Makers is an exciting educational and community initiative linking the ANU School of Music, with Music for Canberra and the Music Engagement Program.

Student musicians from Canberra schools work with the Music Engagement Program to write short melodies. These melodies are assigned to ANU student composers in the ANU Bachelor of Music program, for setting into short pieces for string orchestra. The new works will be workshopped and rehearsed by the string players of the Canberra Youth Orchestra, conducted by Leonard Weiss.

The project culminates in a free public performance on Saturday 29 April 2017, attended by the partner schools, Music for Canberra stakeholders, Canberra music teachers and the ANU School of Music faculty and student body.

Strong partnerships, strong educational networks and strong artistic collaboration practices are the key outcomes of this project.

The Melody Makers project is Directed by Dr Natalie Williams.

Student composers and their families are invited to meet at 2pm at the ANU School of Music.
