MELBOURNE STRINGS and SOPHIA KIRSANOVA, violin
The debut concert of Melbourne Strings - formed of Melbourne's emerging and leading classical string instrument players to present a program featuring Pēteris Vasks Violin Concerto "Distant Light" and the premiere of Ballade for Strings and Voices by Sandra Aleksejeva-Birze especially written for this event.
The concert is curated by Latvian violinist Sophia Kirsanova as part of her research project exploring the distinctive voice of Latvia and is supported by the City of Melbourne and the University of Melbourne.
