Event description

Description

There is maths in craft, and craft in maths!

Join us for an afternoon of mathematical knitting, crochet, embroidery and origami, where you can listen to talks by mathematicians and crafters and explore the different crafts for yourself. All materials and instruction will be provided free of charge. Those who enjoy knitting and crochet might like to bring their own needles to be able to take work home with them.

Talks will take place during the afternoon with seats filled on a first-come-first served basis. Our speakers are:

  • 2.15pm Dr Julia Collins (AMSI) - Crochet and Geometry
  • 3pm Ann-Marie Anderson-Mayes (Beautiful Stitches) - Embroidery and Patterns
  • 3.45pm Dr Michael Assis (University of Melbourne) - Origami and Mechanics

Our venue will be open all afternoon and you are welcome to join us whenever you like. Everyone, regardless of age or background, is welcome to attend! (The activities may not be suitable for those younger than 7.)

This event is supported by La Trobe University, Monash University and the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI).
