Description
Life in the cyber-physical world
As our phones, cars, appliances and clothes are augmented with technology, they constantly collect data about our behaviours. What are the possibilities and challenges we face in integrating this technology into our everyday lives? Get hands-on with robots and other devices to discover the new cyber-physical world.
In this a hands-on workshop, the audience will get an opportunity to interact with robots, and new technologies from the labs and research departments of Deakin University.
The presenters will involve the audience in discussions about the benefits and repercussions of such 'smart' technologies and the data they collect. A simple example is the wearable activity monitor 'Fitbit' that collects data from its users yet has no visible code of ethics around the use of this data. This collection could be considered the largest sleep study ever conducted without abiding by rules that would be applied to a similar study in established research facilities. This fascinating event will be presented by senior lecturer's Tim Wilkin and Shaun Bangay from Deakin's School of Information Technology.
Please note this event is wheelchair accessible.
