Event description

Description

With much anticipation and excitement, the Melbourne Cello Festival returns to Melba Hall with a week-long program packed with concerts and masterclasses from 25 September – 1 October 2017. Join us for three evenings of cello and chamber music performances, and our much-loved CelloXtravaganza concert!

The aim of the Festival is to bring together cellists and music-lovers from Australia and around the globe to share the love for the instrument and to celebrate the music written for it.

The Festival opens with “Kids Day,” tailor-made for young cellists aged 8-15. The rest of the week features four performances by leading Australian and International artists, as well as masterclasses, the lunch-hour “Rising Stars Series," and the Orchestra of 100 Cellos (and Double Basses). In addition to cello works from the canonic repertoire, the audience will hear rarely performed duos, works by Australian and Asian composers, chamber music by Schubert and Brahms, and arrangements of movie music for the low-strings orchestra.

Led by Artistic Director Alvin Wong, Cello Lecturer at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, this event will appeal to everyone who loves music in the community.

Festival Artists include:

Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi (Japan/USA)
Paul Katz (USA)
Edith Salzmann (NZ/Germany)
Inbal Megiddo (NZ/Israel)
Rob Nairn (Australia/USA)
Alvin Wong (Australia/Hong Kong)

We hope you can join us for this very special occasion!
