Description

The 2019 Meet the Professors series is a wonderful chance for students and staff to celebrate the careers and achievements of our newly promoted and recruited professors. Our speakers will share their specialist knowledge and provide insights into ‘what’ and ‘who’ influenced their lives and careers.




Professor Linlin Ge, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, UNSW Engineering

Linlin is a Professor of remote sensing and earth observation in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia. He has been studying earth observation techniques since 1985. Among many other prestigious awards, A/Professor Ge and his team’s work to support the Sichuan Earthquake rescue effort won them the highly prestigious JK Barrie Award for Overall Excellence at the 2008 Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards. He was named "NSW Scientist of the Year 2009" in the category Physics, Earth Sciences, Chemistry and Astronomy for his work in near real-time satellite remote sensing.

Professor Paul Hagan, School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering, UNSW Engineering

Paul Hagan is a Professor in the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering engaged in research and teaching activities at UNSW since 1998.His principal research interests lie in mine geotechnical engineering encompassing machine excavation of rock including the cuttability of rock and, improving the integrity of underground excavations. Other areas of interest in mining engineering include mine planning, mine safety engineering, materials handling and mine management.He has over 30 years’ experience within the mining industry and university sectors. Prior to his appointment to UNSW, he worked locally and internationally in the coal, gold and iron ore sectors in a range of operational, management, technical and research roles.

Any guests attending events can be dropped off directly out the front of the main entrance. Vehicles need to arrive via High Street, Gate 9. Vehicles need to follow the road speed limit.

There is accessible parking near the venue. However, these parking bays are subject to availability. Please refer to B23 on the MAP.
