Event description

Description

In partnership with Tasmanian Refugee Rights Action Group, Amnesty International and Road to Refuge, Fadak Alfayadh will bring Australia's first refugee-led speaking tour to Hobart on November 23 at the Multicultural Hub in Moonah. Hear the real stories of refugees in Australia and learn why listening to the voices of lived experience matters if we are to create long term change in Australia's refugee policy.

At every stop, the Meet Fadak speaking tour has given a platform to local community members making a difference. Wadeed Salboud is an humanitarian arrival who has fled from the war in Syria. Wadeed is now living in Tasmania with his wife and children and is hoping to be able to get his qualifications as a dentist recognised. We're proud to have Wadeed speaking alongside Fadak.

Every Australian needs to meet Fadak. Fadak is a 26 year old Australian lawyer fighting for justice. Fifteen years ago she was a refugee, fleeing the invasion of Iraq. Now, Fadak is on a mission to tell her story as Australia has not yet heard it: in her own words: 'I'm tired of having others tell my story. I want to reclaim my voice.'
