Event description
Join author and historian, Duncan Richardson as he shares his research for Civilising Brisbane.

About this event

In the second half of the 19th Century, Diamantina Bowen, Sister Ellen Whitty and Eliza O’Connell battled indifference and prejudice to improve health care, the arts and education in Brisbane. Crossing the sectarian divide, they often worked together, and their letters and diaries reveal a fascinating story of struggle to improve lives in a rapidly growing town.

Join author and historian, Duncan Richardson as he shares his research for Civilising Brisbane, the story of three colonial women who changed the face of the town.

Please note that places are limited at Brisbane library events, in accordance with current State Government regulations. Enhanced safety and social distancing measures remain in place. Should increased restrictions be implemented in the event of community transmission, events may be postponed or cancelled at short notice.

For more information on restrictions for Greater Brisbane and impacts on Council facilities, services and public transport, refer to our Coronavirus: Council updates and impacts page.
