Meditation 101 is an ideal way to experience the benefits of meditation for the first time. Or to go “back to basics” if you’re trying to refresh your practice.
We’ll explore the basics of mindfulness meditation over four 90 minute sessions during one weekend.
Why learn to meditate?
Many people who want to learn to meditate do so because they are considering the impact of stress, anxiety, overthinking, unpleasant emotional states, or lack of focus or purpose in their lives.
Other people have heard how it can help develop focus and concentration, or increased self-awareness.
Meditation can help with all of these issues.
What will I learn?
The course contains theory and practice. You’ll learn straightforward meditation and relaxation techniques.
The meditation techniques taught in this course are based on Mindfulness Based Stillness Meditation as taught by The Gawler Foundation. I’m fully trained to teach this type of meditation.
The course also incorporates techniques and concepts from a number of mindfulness disciplines, including Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
We’ll dive into a number of concepts from stress management, evolutionary psychology and emotional self-care to explore the reasons why many of us feel stressed, anxious or overwhelmed – and how mindfulness practices can help.
But I can’t meditate! My mind is too busy!
During the course, we’ll talk about exactly why the mind feels so busy. Having a busy mind doesn’t mean you can’t meditate, or are “doing it wrong”! We’ll explore exactly how to deal with thoughts during meditation, and why trying to “stop thinking” doesn’t always work.
I’m keen! Tell me more!
The next run of the workshop happens on Saturday and Sunday, 5th-6th November. We’ll run from 11.30-1pm and 2.15-3.45pm each day
