Medela Asia Pacific Breastfeeding and Lactation Symposium 2018

3rd - 4th of May 2018 Melbourne

This event is the ideal platform to enhance knowledge and clinical practice through presentations of the latest research in breastfeeding and human milk. Together with an audience of breastfeeding champions, our program offers a valuable exchange of thoughts and ideas as well as networking opportunities.


We are pleased to announce our International and Australian speakers for the 2018 Symposium

Professor James McKenna

Presenting the new thinking on “breast-sleeping” and looking at the evidence to support the natural biological need for mother and infant to be together during the night.

Cindy-Lee Dennis

Presenting on the fathers' role in supporting the breastfeeding mother and looking at the current research on using the Breastfeeding Self Efficacy Scale.

Professor Catharina Svanborg

Presenting on HAMLET (Human α-lactalbumin made lethal to tumour cells) in human milk. HAMLET induces apoptosis in tumour cells but leaves fully differentiated cells unaffected. The presentation will summarize the mechanisms of tumour cell death and the effects of HAMLET in patients and tumour models.

Associate Professor Donna Geddes

Presenting the latest research on breast milk production and 24-hour milk collection with mothers in WA. The second presentation will discuss the Hartmann Group’s latest research looking at tongue tie and breastfeeding; results from the ultrasound studies.

Dr. Roslyn Giglia

Presenting the latest research on using alcohol and breastfeeding, best practice, clinical recommendations and resources. ‘Alcohol and Breastfeeding – do the carers care?’

Fiona McLardie Hore

Presenting ‘Ringing Up about Breastfeeding’ (RUBY): outcomes from a randomised controlled trial of telephone peer support for breastfeeding

Dr. Helen Skouteris

Presenting on her current research looking at interventions which impact positively on prolonging breastfeeding duration.

Dr. Sharon Perrella

Presenting the Hartmann Group’s latest research on breastfeeding and the effects of nipple shields on milk transfer.

$235 early bird price – end date 28/02/18


When is the cut off for the standard ticket sales?

$269 standard price – last registrations 16/04/18


What happens if all tickets have sold out proir to cut off dates?

Please contact us via symposium@medela.com.au and we can place you on to the waiting list. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee a place.


Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please bring your electronic ticket or the printed ticket.


What's the refund policy?

Tickets purchased cannot be refunded.


Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Yes, your ticket is transferrable. If you can no longer attend the symposium it is possible to give your ticket to another person who can attend instead of yourself. Please notify us at symposium@medela.com.au of any changes, so that a correct certificate of attendance can be created.

Can I update my registration information?

Yes, you can.


What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Train to Flinders Station

  • Walk - 19 minutes walk up Flinders Street into Wellington Parade and the hotel.

  • Tram - catch the number 75 tram outside Flinders Station and get off at the Wellington Street tram stop 11 which is outside the hotel.

Train to Jolimont Station (Hurstbridge and South Morang lines)

  • Walk across Wellington Parade where the hotel is opposite.

Tram

  • Stop 11 Wellington Parade on the number 48 or 75 trams.

Parking at the hotel

  • $30 per day for delegates at the Symposium. Please note that all parking is strictly subject to availability at time of arrival to the hotel car park and is not reserved.
