Event description
Tasting meads from the only commercial meadery in the Hunter Region, Honey Wines Australia. Followed by hands-on beekeeping experience.

About this Event

This event is hosted from my yard in Blackalls Park. The meadery itself is located in Port Stephens and the bulk of the honey is produced here from my beehives.

We start the experience by sampling at least 5 of Honey Wines Australia's unique meads. You will receive a bottle of your favourite one at the end of the day.

We will then get into the beekeeping protective suits (supplied)

I will show how to light the smoker and then demonstrate how to open a hive up to do a hive inspection. The frames will be pulled out one at a time to check the health of the hive, looking for the Queen, check to see if she is laying a good amount of eggs, checking the bees are building the comb straight, checking for signs of pests and disease.

Then it will be your turn to open a hive, you will get into pairs and be assigned a hive. Whilst one is the assistant first, after the hive is inspected your group will be assigned another hive and the one who opened the hive first then becomes the assistant.

At the end we will have a round of tastings of various types of honey.

Plenty of opportunities for photos up close with the bees.

Please note this experience is NOT a class to learn beekeeping. I do run classes however that is a separate event.

This event is for 18+ year olds only. Please wear white or light coloured socks and fully enclosed shoes. A baseball cap type hat is also good to bring.

Although very rare it is not impossible to be stung by a bee. By attending you agree this event is an 'at your own risk' event and you waive any claim should you be stung by a bee or injured in any way.

Please park your car in my long driveway and if full can park on the grass out front.

If very poor weather the session may be cancelled and you can either choose to receive a refund or reschedule to another date.

If you cancel with less than a weeks notice a fee can be applied, increasing the closer it is to the start date.

Full address included on invoice after purchasing tickets. If you can't find it contact me.
