Abstract: There are many unanswered questions about the structure of Graphene Oxide (GO) and our 2-component model has been the subject of considerable discussion. Here we present new results on the functionalising of pure graphene with atomic oxygen. Atomic resolution TEM, XPS and Raman are used to show how graphene evolves into a structure indistinguishable from GO. About the Speaker: A/Prof. Jon Rourke received his PhD from the University of Sheffield. He did his postdoctoral research at University of Western Ontario and became a lecturer at the University of Bristol. He is currently Senior Lecturer and Reader at the University of Warwick.
His research areas include: Mechanistic studies of organo-palladium and platinum species are being undertaken with a view to understanding C-H activation processes. In addition, organometallic liquid crystals based on platinum and palladium are being studied. Fundamental studies on the chemistry and properties of chemically modified graphene and graphene oxide are also being undertaken.
