Event Information
About this event
May Gibbs (1877-1969) was one of Australia’s foremost children’s authors and illustrators, best known today for the iconic Australian children’s story, ‘The Complete Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie’, featuring two gumnut babies. Nutcote is the beautiful harbourside home of May Gibbs and her husband, James Ossili Kelly, and where May Gibbs lived for 44 years. Designed in 1924 and built in 1925 on the shore of Sydney Harbour at Neutral Bay, May’s instructions were that the house should have ‘compactness, convenience and charm’. Tour both the house and the delightful cottage garden which features both natives and exotic trees and shrubs.
