Are you effectively tapping into social media for your business? This doesn't mean hiring someone who calls themselves a social media ninja or asking your intern to Tweet. If used effectively, social media can increase your user base, encourage retention and ultimately drive sales. It provides the perfect shareable platform for content and as such is rapidly becoming the most powerful force in publishing. Social should, by now, be an important element of the sales cycle in every industry.
Australians specifically spend more time on social sites than people in any other developed country (7 hours and 17 minutes per month), according to Nielsen’s Social Media report. While Australian's favourite sites are; Facebook, YouTube, Blogspot, LinkedIn and Twitter, sites that are fast growing in popularity and user base include Instagram, Google Plus, and Pinterest.
This half day social media workshop will take students through the best ways to utilise social media through storytelling, engaging content generation and social media monitoring. Through a series of practical exercises, students will learn tools to create actionable social media content, track media performance, create an ongoing dialogue with consumers, and collect insights to influence product development and marketing strategies.

About the instructors:
Chris Gross is a digital native with a love of social media and sports, Chris recently got his dream job as the Head of Social Media and Digital Marketing at Fox Sports in August 2012. Prior to this Chris was at Vodafone for four years as the Head of Social Media and Video. In this role he grew the team from a single resource to a team of over 35 social media experts, and in doing so it became one of the largest social media teams in Australia. Through this period Chris and his team won multiple awards including the 2012 B&T 30under30, he speaks regularly at industry events.
Matthew Gain is a digital PR and social media practitioner, with experience developing and directing programs for major brands both in locally and internationally. Matthew leads Edelman Australia's digital practice and is a digital strategist for Edelman Asia Pac. Matthew has developed programs for brands such as Microsoft, Vodafone, Samsung, Xbox, MasterCard and Proctor and Gamble. He is a regular industry speaker and blogs on the topics of digital PR, social media and the changing media landscape at MatthewGain.com.
Dan Goodswen is Strategist at We Are Social Australia, where he works on brands such as eBay, HP, Paypal, Kia and Roadshow Films. Dan is a content focused social media strategist with 5 years experience in planning, producing, optimising and distributing digital content across social channels. He was community manager at TotalFilm.com, one of the UK's largest film review sites where he managed their Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Tumblr platforms.
