Description

MATE training

MATE delivered by Women’s Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West. Is based on a highly successful violence prevention program created by Jackson Katz in the United States in 1993. It is an industry leader and was one of the first programs to use a bystander approach to violence prevention.

The leadership program is focused on preventing all forms for men’s violence against women by empowering people to be active bystanders. This program is not about confronting violence, but confronting the behaviours that create a violence supportive culture such as sexism, sexist jokes and rigid gender roles, making this training ideal for delivery to school staff. MATE works on the basis that giving people options to intervene safely in situations will allow them to take action. The program outlines different methods of safe bystander intervention and aims to raise awareness, challenge thinking, open dialogue and inspire leadership.
