Masterclass for council staff, councillors and mayors

Training aim and objectives

Increasing participants’ awareness of their obligations under the Local Government Act and their effectiveness in sound and effective decision making. This interactive workshop will explore ethics and integrity in council decision making in the context of organisational culture and good governance. The following topics will be covered:

  • Obligation for good governance under the current Local Government Act (1989)
  • Understanding conflicts of interest and bias in the current Act
  • From ethics to integrity
  • Lessons from recent inquiries and investigations
  • Highlights of the Local Government Bill (2018) and its implications

Training format and outline

  • 10 am to 4 pm with lunch and breaks
  • Training will be a mixture of theory and practice and will encourage interactive discussions
