Description

This masterclass will be delivered onsite at Taronga Zoo. Our masterclasses program is your opportunity to taste test our curriculum.

Try out a class that could be part of your future course, so you can explore which postgraduate option is right for you.

Current challenges and innovation in conservation leadership

With 70% of the world’s population set to live in urban areas by 2050, there has never been a more urgent and critical need to address the threats to biodiversity. In the absence of contact with rural and natural habitats, future generations risk growing up without an essential understanding of ecology, sustainability, and our place in the world. Taronga's efforts in conservation education answer the growing need to connect humans with the rest of nature. Students in this masterclass will have an opportunity to learn more about the science, education and leadership involved in leading conservation education programs in Australia and internationally.

Presented by Dr Paul Mason.

Dr Mason is an anthropologist with field experience in Brazil, Indonesia, Vietnam and Papua New Guinea and laboratory research background working on honeybee signalling and Siberian Hamster circannual rhythms. His research on complex systems has been published in leading international journals. He teaches postgraduate units in conservation science, education and leadership at the Taronga Institute of Science and Learning.

This class is delivered as part of EDPT 5004 Conservation Leadership and Change – a unit of study offered through the Master of Education (Taronga Conservation Education).
