Master Plan Series – Session One

Planning for our future

The free ANU Master Plan series provides a window into the master planning process for students, staff and anyone else who is interested in the Acton campus. At each session, a panel of experts will discuss Master Plan-related topics and answer questions from the audience.

The first session in the Master Plan Series will focus on future directions: the future of academia, resilience in uncertain times, and the impact of global economic, cultural and societal trends on higher education and ANU. What does the campus of the future need to look like in order to adequately prepare for these challenges?

The session will cover:

  • Future learning - online learning compared to campus attendance (Massive Open Online Courses - MOOCs)
  • Formal and informal learning
  • Students customising/tailoring their own education
  • Learning across different stages of life
  • Preparing for careers of the future (e.g. more flexible / short term / contract work, working internationally, gig and on-demand economy)

Moderated by Professor Marnie Hughes-Warrington, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), the panel includes:

  • Malcolm Snow, CEO, City Renewal Authority, ACT Government
  • Professor Tim Senden, Director, Research School of Physics and Engineering
  • Dr Brad Tucker, Astrophysicist and Outreach Astronomer, ANU College of Science
