Marte Meo - The Impact of Your Daily Interactions on a Child's Development

Overview

High quality and supportive interactions are key to healthy development and wellbeing in a child's early years. What do these interactions look like in real life? Maria Aarts established the Marte Meo programme over 40 years ago, and the program has now been adopted in 43 countries. The aim of the Marte Meo programme is to identify, activate and develop supportive interactions through film-based analysis, providing practical methods for parents, educators and professionals to support the social, emotional and communication development of children.

This seminar will demonstrate how educators can improve the quality of each daily interaction moment with children. Using video as a tool for analysis, Maria will help identify supportive interactions and demonstrate the developmental impact of each interaction on the child. Educators can learn to understand the importance of their interactions for the child to develop a sense of self, and for their ability to connect and manage in everyday situations.

Speaker

Maria Aarts
Founder & Director of the Marte Meo International Network
Eindhoven, The Netherlands

Maria Aarts has been working for over 40 years with parents and educators world-wide to support children’s social and emotional development and their general wellbeing. From her experiences of working with children and young adults with special needs in Dutch residential settings, Maria has developed the Marte Meo Method of Communication.

Translated from Latin, Marte Meo means “On one’s own strengths” and, as the name suggests, it’s about building on the good communication skills that parents and educators use already. Marte Meo uses interaction analysis to identify people’s strengths.
