Marketing Tune Up Workshop

Running your own business means you are often reliant on others to deliver services to boost your marketing. Designers, web masters, copy writers and printers are just a few of professions you need. But, let’s face it, not all brands can afford the expertise, particularly in the early days of development.

And, how do you know if your money is being well spent? If you decide to do it yourself, how do you know if it is damaging the brand image you are working so hard to achieve? If you have staff working on your brand, how do you know they are nurturing it in the way it needs?

Your workshop leader is Clare McAlaney, who is not only a brand expert, but experienced designer, photographer, writer, author and publisher. She has worked with blue chip brands such as Cadbury Schweppes and Bulla Dairy, and knows what you need to know to drive your marketing efforts efficiently, successfully and most important of all, powerfully. She has also published over 14 books for herself and others. She holds a Business Law Graduate Diploma, a further degree majoring in retail law and marketing, and a business diploma, with over 20 years-experience working with brands in Australia and overseas.

The Marketing Tune Up Workshop will teach you (or your staff) the things they don’t teach in a marketing degree:

- Publishing basics. Everything that is visual about your brand tells a story, from posting on social media to creating a flyer or catalogue. How to write a brief (and why you should), be consistent and attend to the little things is critical, whether you are creating it yourself or paying a professional. Everything from getting an ISBN to protecting your copyright is covered. Learn the 10 mistakes made in publishing online and in print.

- Pre-press essentials. Printers print. Many will simply print what is provided. Are your files print-worthy? There are seven common errors made by brands that printers won’t tell you about, costing you re-prints or time in alterations. Get the result you want and the most out of your print results – you will be surprised!

- Copy writing errors. Whatever you write tells a story. Your brand’s story. Learn the 10 power tips that will lift your copy. Know when to hire a writer or editor. And come away with a 300-word brand synopsis that you can be proud of.

- Intellectual property (IP). The murky grey world of IP puts many brands in unintended dangerous positions, from photographs to copy, to protecting your brand from copycats. Know your rights, and the rights of others, from a practical perspective.

- Creating eBooks that work. An eBook is a powerful calling card. As a giveaway, it increases leads. Learn how to develop the content, and publish it for your customers in either PDF or eFormat. And, how eBooks can be upgraded to print books, giving you content that draws your star customer to you.

- Know your customer. What’s not measured, doesn’t matter. How research tools can change the way you go to market. Learn simple ways of measuring results and satisfaction, when to use pre-market research, and how you can do all of this from within. Write a questionnaire that you can use immediately.

- Adobe Creative Cloud. Why your business needs it, and how to get the most out of it. Clare will introduce you to the three main applications – Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Make in-house alterations and take control of the details.

- Design secrets. Many businesses are doing their own design to save costs, or turning to online services that offer pre-packaged items such as logos and flyers. Sometimes it works, but often, the end result is unprofessional. Learn the basics of developing a Voice and Visual Guideline for your brand, ultimately adding value to the bottom line of your brand, and bringing your business vision to life.
