About this Event

Facilitator Mandy Stevens is a registered teacher who has worked in the school system and community/welfare programs with children and adolescents. Mandy has extensive experience in the areas of respectful relationships, sexuality education and the prevention of gender-based violence. She has worked for over two decades delivering this training to teachers, parents, students, undergraduate teachers and allied health workers. Mandy recently worked on a project at the VCAA as a Specialist Teacher in the area of Respectful Relationships.

What will school staff gain from attending these sessions?

Schools are busy places and workshops will help staff to:

• Streamline the work needed to implement RR into the classroom

• Feel more comfortable and confident with teaching RR

• Map where a school is currently and where RR can sit within existing programs

• Plan for assessment of a respectful relationships program

• Save time with lots of planning documents and resources provided

• Identify practical strategies to bring reluctant staff and/or parent communities on board

The session will focus on teaching/learning programs and curriculum planning and include:

• RR and the Victorian Curriculum: where it fits

• The importance of curriculum mapping

• Aligning RR with existing school programs

• Sample curriculum planning tools (units of work, scope and sequences, mapping documents)

• Resources to support a RR teaching and learning program

• Pedagogy: interactive teaching strategies for the classroom

• Understanding assessment and RR

• Case studies: different ways to implement RR into the curriculum

• Planning for action: school planning documents and tools
