From March 8 - April 30 2020, Make Art with Purpose (MAP) is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution with MAP2020: The Further We Roll, The More We Gain, an arts festival that includes site specific flag installations, exhibitions, public programs and workshops at locations throughout Dallas - Fort Worth. As a part of MAP2020 MAP is partnering with Oak Cliff Aikikai and The Commons Choir Co-Director, and dancer Daria Fain and Musical Director Anaïs Maviel to produce a series of community workshops that will result in a performance. In concert with the theme of MAP2020, marking the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, The Commons Choir workshops will provide tools to empower the feminine balance that resides in each of us.

The dynamic of the movement/vocal practice will allow workshop participants to trust a transformative process to take place individually within the collective process. Physically the practice is based on QiGong and Chinese physical and energetic ways to cultivate life force while understanding the elements and your surrounding environment more holistically. Vocally the practice works towards a deep embodiment to own ones voice. It is a vibrational approach that opens up the energy centers and channels in the body based on a new research field founded by Daria Fain and The Commons Choir Co-founder and Co-Director Robert Kocik and Daria Faïn called the Prosodic Body. Prosody” is words saying more than words can ever say. Our bodies congealed around the formative energies of the phonemes in order that they be spoken. As such, prosody is the composing of that of which we’re made with that of which we’re made. It’s the immediate medium and means of our mutual bioregulation and co-constituting.
