Map Your Year of Writing

 – Planning Spotlight Studies (Units of Study)

This is a follow-up workshop for those who have already participated in our Introduction to Bookmaking or Introduction to Writer’s Notebook Mini Courses.

We can think of making a plan as something rigidly established in advance, with no scope for modification. Or… we can think of a plan as a proposal or intention that helps set our direction, but is open to revision and enhancement along the way.

When we also think of ourselves as designers of learning opportunities, we take on the role of,

“a good, thoughtful host anticipating the needs of his guests.”

(Charles Eames, American Mid-Century Designer)

Designing a clear plan for our Writing Workshop prepares the learning environment and our thinking for the needs of the young writers we work alongside. It can bring clarity to our teaching, connection to writer’s learning and intentionally build a sense of community.  Join us to map out a possible year of writing for 2020. You'll leave the morning with a sense of direction and a process you can use every year - and for Reading Workshop. (Most suited to F-7 teachers)

In this workshop, Lisa will:

  • Introduce the benefits of framing writing learning within a Spotlight Study (Unit of Study)
  • Share how she plans for a Spotlight Study that brings an inquiry stance into Writing Workshop
  • Share a strategy for connecting your planning to the Australian Curriculum
  • Lead you through a process for mapping our your Writing Workshop intentions for the year

Light Morning Tea is provided
